Known for his most recent book, “The Rise of the Creative Class Revisited,” Region Rising kicks off with famed author Richard Florida who will discuss the importance the creative class plays in establishing our region’s competitive advantage, paving our economic future, and how his creative class theories can apply to the Sacramento region.
A decade ago residents came together to create a shared vision for the region through 2050. In 2014, we marked 10 years of the implementation of the Sacramento Region Blueprint—a bold vision that defines a preferred strategy for how the region should grow using smart-growth principles and performance-based planning to address regional growth patterns and transportation investment priorities. Since the award-winning Blueprint was adopted, we’ve lived by a set of common principles that guide planning and investment decisions across the Sacramento region to this day. Enhanced housing options, transportation choices, mixing land uses, conserving natural resources, and infusing quality development are all part of the legacy of Blueprint.
How does California’s Capital region rank in quality of life and overall livability? Are we prepared for the needs of our communities for the next 10 years? And 50 years?
